A mad keen angler from an early age (introduced through a school friend, no one in family fished) and progressed through the ranks of Silver Dace Juniors, under the guidance of Eddie Farr and Jack Bedford. Fished a junior national on the Welland in the 70's and went on to fish for several local teams. Enjoyed trips to Ireland in the 80's to fish the Bann and Sealink festival. Travelled around the country fishing various venues - Oxford canal, Warks Avon (especially Twyford Farm) and obviously many of my local venues in and around Bristol and Somerset. I won the individual title in 1989, of the Angling Times winter league (South West) and was a member of the winning team (Clevedon Veals) a year later in the Somerset AT winter league. An 18 month succession of really poor draws saw me give up fishing. When I returned to fishing, it was a different world, commercials, carp and pellets dominate the match scene and its taken me a while to come to terms with it.
