Pole Series Round Two, Acorn. Sunday 12th April 2014

The weathermen had promised a day with no rain and little wind and for once they seemed to have it bang on.  I decided to wait and take the last ticket in the draw tub, not sure that was my best decision, as it left me peg 7, not the strongest peg in the section.

I wanted to give myself several options, so two rigs for tight across, one for banded pellet, one for maggot, a rig to fish over groundbait with worm or dead maggot, a margin rig and finally, as there is a flat plateau in front of peg 8 (which isn't pegged), a paste rig.

There were signs of fish moving across, I went straight over and had 3 fish for about 6lb in the first half an hour, which was slow, but the next half hour was even slower, not a bite.  With an hour gone I went down to peg 8 on paste and had 4 fish up to 6lb, this line then died as sudden and unresuscitationable as the far bank.  I had been feeding a margin line and saw a fishes tail over the feed, dropping in I had a sharp bite and another 4lb fish was netted.

Nothing else to write about, I spent the last 3 hours trying every line, bait and various hook and line sizes to no avail, I didn't have another bite, not even on single maggot.  My 'first half fish' went 30.11 for a dismal 7th in section - a day to forget - although I did sneak through the knockout.

The venue is very coloured, I assume stirred up by fish, but they seem very reluctant to feed confidently in many pegs, maybe a couple more degrees increase in the water temp will help, I hope so!!
